Why are there two rates?+
The official rate of 1,320 dinars is set by the Central Bank of Iraq, and is used for the currency auction, government and banking transactions, and official imports.
The parallel market rate is the price actually traded between exchange shops and individuals, set by supply and demand. It runs higher because demand for dollars outside official channels exceeds what the auction supplies, and the difference between the two is the exchange-rate gap.
The rate shown is a published closing rate for the Baghdad market and is a REFERENCE, not an execution price: it moves during the day, differs between governorates, and every exchange shop sets its own buy-sell spread.
About the source and updates+
The market rate comes from alsumaria.tv — its daily closing-rate article, carrying buy and sell rates per 100 dollars. The official rate is NOT read from an external source: it is a fixed policy rate, last confirmed 6 August 2026.
No daily change is shown: the source publishes a closing rate each day without the previous day’s, and this product does not store past readings, so there is no yesterday figure to compare against.
This product keeps no time series for these prices — each reading replaces the last, so there is no historical chart here. Plotting one would mean a series that starts the day storage is switched on, and it cannot recover what was never recorded.
